About Fletcher

US 25, Hendersonville Road, runs through the middle of town, and I-26 passes along the west side. The area was settled in 1795, was called Murrayville and then Shufordsville, and took the name Fletcher in 1886. Cane Creek bounded some of the earliest landholdings. The 2020 census counted 7,987 residents.

Fletcher's housing is mostly subdivisions and townhomes from recent decades, with older homes along the main roads and in the countryside. Mice come in through garages, utility entries and the base of veneer walls, and rats show up near creeks and where trash or feed is easy to reach.
Business is a bigger part of the picture here than in most nearby towns. Warehouses, distribution buildings and shops near the airport and I-26 deal with mice at dock doors and rats near dumpsters and loading areas. Those buildings need a program with exterior stations, interior monitoring, door sweeps and dock seals, and written service reports. See commercial rodent control.
Fletcher is in Henderson County, so restaurant inspections and public health questions go to Henderson County rather than Buncombe. Rodent providers who serve south Asheville usually cover Fletcher.
Farmland and creeks at the edges
Away from US 25 and the industrial areas, Fletcher still has farmland and creek bottoms, especially toward Mills River and Hoopers Creek. Homes next to fields see a burst of mouse activity after mowing and harvest and again when the weather turns cold. Sealing garages and utility entries before fall and keeping feed and seed in metal bins help most. Warehouses and shops near I-26 can schedule visits to match harvest and cold-weather spikes.
